Back after a difficult road trip to the Gold Coast with only 1 point out of a potential 6 points the Bears know the road to the finals is only going to get harder. The Blue Tongues got off to an early lead on Saturday nights game with Mike McRae firing a puck short side to give the Blue Tongues the 1-0 lead. The Bears turned up the pressure and were rewarded for their efforts with Vladan Stransky scoring from a back hand after a beautiful deke in front the net. The Blue Tongues answered right back with Mike McRae scoring his second goal of the night only 22 seconds later to put the Blue Tongues back in front 2-1.
With the Bears only trailing by 1, Eric Begin tied the game 2-2 sliding the puck under the paddle of import goalie Reese Kalleitner. The Bears continued to apply the pressure but couldn't find the winning goal even after firing 16 shots on net. With both teams deadlocked, import forward Dallas Constanzo scored with less than 2 minutes left in the period to put the Blue Tongues up 3-2 heading into the third.
The back and forth battle continued into the third period, until the Blue Tongues went on the power play after Nick Cleland was sent off for cross checking with 6 minutes remaining. Mike McRae completed the hat trick scoring on the power play over an out stretched Nick Boucher. The Bears pulled their goalie with 2 minutes to go but were unable to generate any offence in the dying minutes of the game.
Looking for some payback in Sunday night’s game the Bears got off to another slow start allowing the Blue Tongues 19 shots on net in the first period alone. Starting the second period down 1-0, Bears forward Brett Nelson-Bond scored from the side of the net to level the game at 1-1 after a great 3-2 rush by Adrian Esposito and Daniel Shaw. Out shooting the Blue Tongues 16 to 6 in the second period, the Bears struggles on the man advantage continued with Mike McRae scoring a short handed goal with 50 seconds to go in the second period to put the Blue Tongues up 2-1.
With less than 2 minutes to go and still down by 1, the Bears pulled the goalie for the extra attacker and pressed for the tying goal. With the clock winding down import forward Michal Lauko scored the game tying goal with only 18 seconds remaining in the game to force a shoot out.
Unfortunately luck was not on the Bears side in the shootout, with the Bears missing on all 3 of their shots and only securing 1 point.
The Habitat Furniture Man of the Match went to Daniel Shaw for his hard work on the fore check and assisting on the first goal of the game.
The 2 losses on the weekend have the Bears now sitting tied for 3rd place with the Adrenaline and Blue Tongues on 27 points.
