Win slips from the Bears claws

A deflated Bears assistant Brett Nelson-Bond spoke of the disappointment of another loss, “The first 2 periods were good, but we were once again we let them back into the game in the 3rd period.”

It’s almost like the other teams know we struggle in the final period and just wait for us out.” He said.

The game started as a standoff between both teams not giving an inch in defence. Dutch import Tony Demelinne came close to score a few times in the first period, showing off his forecheckung abilities and making some key plays. At the other end of the ice, import goalie Sheldon Baerg stood tall under the pressure early on to keep the scores tied at nil all.

Back on the ice the momentum started to ever so slowly swing toward the Bears as they pressed the North Star defence. The first eventual penalty of the night went to North Stars Scott Thauwald which opened the door for Brett Nelson Bond to break through and scramble in the first goal of the night putting the Bears in front 1-0. The North Stars tried to equalise the rest of the period but ended up with more penalties leaving the Bears leaders at the end of the 2nd period.

It appeared the Bears final period fortunes hadn’t changed with The North Stars scoring straight out of the box, an early goal by Beau Taylor followed minutes later by Tim Stanger. Bears Captain Michael Schlamp didn’t take losing the lead lightly with a goal of his own shortly after to equalise once again. It didn’t take long for The North Stars to response with two more goals within minutes of one another, the game now slipping from the Bears grasp, they were unable to reply sealing the win for the North Stars.

The Habitat Furniture 3 Stars of the Game went too:

  1. Adrian Esposito
  2. Laurie Mock
  3. Specner Austin
Next weekend the Bears will have two home games back to back against the Ice Dogs on Saturday the 16th of July and The Melbourne Ice on Sunday the 17th of July, both games start at 5pm.
