Battle of Sydney Round 3

The Bears will be counting on their strong home record to help them snap their 5 game losing skid. This season on home ice the Bears hold a (6-1-1) record including 2 wins over the Melbourne Ice and 1 win and 1 shoot out loss against the North Stars.

Currently tied for 4 position on the AIHL ladder with Blue Tongues on 27 points the Bears know that these final 6 games in the season are critical in order to make the playoffs, especially with the Blue Tongues having 2 games in hand on the Bears.

After last weekends 8-2 loss to the Dogs on Saturday and 6-1 loss on Sunday  to the North Stars, the Bears know they need to find the form that allowed them to win 8 games in row earlier on in the season.

Lack of offense continues to be a problem for the Bears who have been unable to score more than 2 goals per game in their last 5 games.

"We all need to relax and get back to the basics that helped us win games before, getting pucks to the net and skating hard for any rebounds" said forward Brett Nelson-Bond.

Playing without head coach Vlad Rubes who is back in Czech and will be away for the next 3 games, veteran forward Michael Schlamp takes the reigns and will be running the bench with Murray Wand reclaiming the captaincy in Vlad's absence.

Returning to the Bears line up will be Steve Adams who has been away with the Mens Inline team and Scott Townsend back from a wrist injury. Both players will be counted on to bring their offensive sparks on the weekend.

Want to meet the players? The Bears will be having dinner after the game at the Grey Gums Pub so bring the whole family around for a quick drink and meal.

The Bears next game is on August 1st, 5pm against the Ice Dogs in the final installment in the Battle of Sydney show down.
