About the Bears
The Sydney Bears is one of the longest standing Ice Hockey clubs in Australia. The club originally started in 1982 at the Macquarie Ice Rink, in April 2007, the Sydney Bears headed west to Penrith and on Sunday September 2nd 2007 the Penrith Ice Rink official became the new home of the AIHL Bears.
The Sydney Bears have been participating at the highest level in Australia and have claimed the Championship on “9” occasions, 3 occasions in the last 10 years, with the AIHL (now in it’s 10th season). With the Sydney Bears preparing for the 2010 year, they hold the record as the longest serving team in Australian ice hockey history at the elite level.
The continuing success of the club lies in its members & sponsors, and the growth of the development program shows the future is very bright for the Sydney Bears. The club has always found a place for any beginner to take the sport of ice hockey as it can be enjoyed by all ages. The different grades are continually impressed by the standard of players being produced by the development program and ensure a consistently high standard teams in all grades. The aims of the club are to be competitive, to develop players of all ages, to promote the sport of ice hockey and to have fun, enjoy and cater for recreational players in the Junior and Senior Divisions as well as promoting a Development League at the Penrith Ice Rink.
The Sydney Bears Ice Hockey Club is a non-profit incorporated association. The Club Executive and game officials are all volunteers. Ice Hockey is one of the fastest sports in the world and we cater for all ages. Ice Hockey is a great way to get fit, make friends and learn to work within a team.
Feel free to come down and watch our AIHL Bears sweat it out at a training session at the Penrith Ice Rink any Wednesday night after 9.00pm (during the season) or, even better, watch them in action on the weekend. The Sydney Bears are well into their pre-season preparation and are confident of having a spectacular season.
