Bears go down fighting in loss
14/08/11
The Sydney Bears were defeated by the Adelaide Adrenaline 7-3 at Penrith Ice Palace in the Australian Ice Hockey League at Penrith Ice Palace on Sunday.
Despite mounting a comeback in the final period, the Bears’ lack of depth was evident without their two star imports, Dutchman Tony Demelinne and Canadian Kurtis Dulle.
Adelaide opened the scoring early through forward Cass Delsar, who found enough space inside a packed Bears goalmouth to finish, and doubled their lead soon after, thanks to a brilliant individual effort from forward Josef Rezek.
Coming up short against Mustangs
07/08/11
The Bears battled till the final minute against the Mustangs going down 3-2 with a short bench.
With a short bench on the road Sydney players would have to log a lot of minutes against a speedy Melbourne squad, but the Bears got off to a good start when defence-man Steve Adams buried a power play goal, to give his team a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period.
The Bears then withstood a barrage of Melbourne power plays but eventually gave up the equalising goal, and soon after the home team added another to take the lead.
Tony Demelinne shines downunder
Tony Demelinne leaves the Bears squad before the end of the season to prepare himself for the Swedish 2nd Division.
The name of the game for The Bears this year was leadership, with a young and inexperienced team line up, strength and knowledge were needed to guide the up and coming Bears to take on the AIHL opposition.
Enter Tony Demelinne, who after some well-earned success in Europe, joined The Bears in the fourth game against The Ice, his presence was immediately felt remarkably scoring four goals. Losing key import Jordan Hale to a sudden season ending injury, it was up to Tony and fellow import Kurtis Dulle to lead the way, while Canadian import Sheldon Baerg held the net.

Win slips from the Bears claws
09/07/11
The Bears were unable to hold out the Newcastle North Stars in the 3rd period after leading the game 1-0 for the first 2 periods.
A deflated Bears assistant Brett Nelson-Bond spoke of the disappointment of another loss, “The first 2 periods were good, but we were once again we let them back into the game in the 3rd period.”
